ABOUT THE TEAM
OpenAI Finance is responsible for ensuring the organization is positioned for success in pursuit of its mission. We partner closely with leaders across the company to build scalable financial infrastructure, maintain strong governance and controls, and support OpenAI's continued global growth.
As OpenAI expands across Asia Pacific, we are seeking an experienced APAC Controller to build and lead our regional controllership function. This role will serve as the senior finance leader for the region, overseeing accounting, financial reporting, compliance, systems, and finance operations across a growing portfolio of legal entities.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for an experienced APAC Controller to lead OpenAI's accounting and controllership activities across Asia Pacific. Reporting to the International Controller, this role will be responsible for building and scaling the regional finance organization while ensuring strong financial controls, operational excellence, and compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
This is a strategic and hands-on leadership role. You will partner closely with Accounting, Tax, Treasury, Legal, Finance Systems, People, and business leaders across the company to support OpenAI's rapid growth throughout APAC.
As the first senior finance leadership hire dedicated to the region, you will play a critical role in defining how OpenAI scales its finance operations across one of the company's fastest-growing geographies.
This role is based in Singapore and follows a hybrid work model.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
REGIONAL CONTROLLERSHIP
- Lead all accounting, financial reporting, and compliance activities across APAC legal entities.
- Own regional month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes and consolidation into the global group.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, IFRS, and local statutory reporting requirements.
- Oversee statutory financial statements, audits, board reporting, and regulatory filings across multiple jurisdictions.
- Manage complex intercompany arrangements, transfer pricing implementations, and foreign currency matters in partnership with Tax and Treasury.
- Partner with Legal, Tax, Treasury, and external advisors on new entity establishment and ongoing compliance requirements.
FINANCE OPERATIONS AND SYSTEMS
- Drive scalable accounting processes, controls, and operating procedures to support continued regional growth.
- Partner with Finance Systems teams on Oracle and broader finance technology initiatives across APAC.
- Lead automation and process improvement efforts leveraging AI and emerging technologies.
- Ensure strong governance over accounting operations, reconciliations, and financial controls.
- Support public-company readiness initiatives, including SOX and internal controls development.
LEADERSHIP AND TEAM DEVELOPMENT
- Build, develop, and lead a high-performing APAC finance and accounting organization.
- Establish the regional hiring roadmap as OpenAI expands its presence across APAC.
- Manage relationships with external accounting firms, payroll providers, auditors, and finance service providers.
- Serve as the primary finance representative for APAC entity boards, auditors, and regulatory stakeholders.
STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP
- Act as the senior finance business partner for APAC leadership.
- Support expansion into new markets and jurisdictions across the region.
- Partner with global Accounting, Tax, Treasury, Legal, People, and GTM teams to support strategic initiatives.
- Help shape OpenAI's long-term international finance strategy and operating model.
YOU MIGHT THRIVE IN THIS ROLE IF YOU HAVE:
- CPA, CA, ACA, ACCA, or equivalent accounting qualification.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and controllership experience within multinational organizations.
- Significant experience leading accounting and finance operations across multiple APAC jurisdictions.
- Deep expertise in U.S. GAAP, IFRS, consolidations, intercompany accounting, and foreign currency reporting.
- Extensive experience leading statutory audits and corporate compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements across key APAC markets including ensuring compliance with the Indian Companies Act.
- Strong knowledge of transfer pricing, international corporate structures, and cross-border operations.
- Experience implementing or operating large-scale ERP platforms such as Oracle, NetSuite, SAP, or Workday.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, rapidly evolving environments while balancing strategic leadership with hands-on execution.
- Passion for leveraging AI and automation to transform finance operations.
- Experience building a regional controllership function from an early stage.
- Experience supporting rapid international expansion and new entity launches.
- Experience with SOX implementation or public company environments.
- Experience with international payroll, equity compensation, and finance operations in APAC.
