<p><strong>What you’ll do</strong></p>
<p>As a Staff Software Engineer in Banking, you will help shape the technical direction of one of Brex’s most strategic and complex product areas. The Banking org is both a product and platform org, it owns the Brex Business Account product and AP offerings like Bill Pay and Vendors, and the underlying money movement platform and partner integrations that power those experiences. In this role, you’ll work across customer-facing product surfaces and core financial infrastructure, driving architecture, reliability, and execution across that full stack.</p>
<p>This role is designed for an engineer who can move between long-horizon technical strategy and hands-on execution. You will partner closely with engineering, product, design, data, operations, risk, compliance, and external partners to simplify complex systems, improve reliability, and help the organization deliver ambitious product outcomes without losing sight of operational excellence.</p>
<p>You should be excited to lead through influence, bring clarity to ambiguous spaces, and raise the bar for how we design and operate banking systems at scale. This is a broad staff role spanning architecture, reliability, and product delivery, with meaningful opportunities to shape both the systems we build and how the Banking org works together.</p>
<p><strong>Where you’ll work</strong></p>
<p>This role will be based in our <strong>Seattle </strong>office. We are a hybrid environment that combines the energy and connections of being in the office with the benefits and flexibility of working from home. We currently require a 3 days per week in the office - Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. As a perk, we also have up to four weeks per year of fully remote work!</p>
<p><strong>Responsibilities:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Lead technical strategy for critical Banking initiatives, balancing long-term architecture with near-term delivery needs across multiple teams.</li>
<li>Drive the design and evolution of reliable, scalable systems for money movement, bank account experiences, payment orchestration, and related financial infrastructure.</li>
<li>Partner cross-functionally with product, design, operations, compliance, risk, and accounting to turn complex business and regulatory requirements into durable technical solutions.</li>
<li>Identify and resolve systemic reliability, quality, and operability issues, improving observability, incident prevention, and engineering standards over time.Provide technical leadership across teams by driving architecture reviews, aligning stakeholders, and helping teams make strong tradeoffs in ambiguous spaces.Mentor senior engineers and emerging technical leaders, helping raise the bar on system design, execution, and technical ownership within the Banking org.</li>

<p><strong>Requirements:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>8+ years of software engineering experience, including experience operating as a senior technical leader on complex, multi-team initiatives</li>
<li>Demonstrated track record of leading architecture and delivery for large-scale distributed systems in a product or platform engineering environment</li>
<li>Strong systems thinking and the ability to simplify complex technical and organizational problems into clear, actionable plans</li>
<li>Experience improving reliability, operational excellence, and engineering quality in production systems with meaningful customer or business impact</li>
<li>Ability to work effectively across engineering, product, design, operations, compliance, risk, and other cross-functional partners</li>
<li>Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and align teams without direct authority</li>
<li>Hands-on technical depth and sound engineering judgment, including the ability to dive into implementation details when needed</li>
<li>Experience mentoring senior engineers and helping scale technical leadership across an organization</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Bonus Points:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Experience in fintech, banking, payments, ledgering, or money movement systems</li>
<li>Experience building systems in highly regulated environments</li>
<li>Experience leading large migrations, platform consolidations, or service modernization efforts</li>
<li>Experience working with external financial or infrastructure partners and integrating third-party systems into critical product flows</li>
<li>Experience defining technical strategy for org-level investments that span product, platform, and operational workflows</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Compensation:</strong></p>
<p>The expected salary range for this role is <strong>$240,000 - $285,000</strong>. However, the starting base pay will depend on a number of factors including the candidate’s location, skills, experience, market demands, and internal pay parity.
